Roof Deck & Edge Details

Gibson St shed · drawings to scale from the measured frame · October 1, 2026 · source: Roof_Deck_and_Edge_Details.md

Numbers used: plates 120″ apart (outside faces) · ridge 143-13/16″ · rafters 66-1/4″ top edge, plumb cut to plumb cut (about 68-1/4″ tip to tip), heel 4-3/8″ · 6:12 · wall plywood ≈0.45″ · fascia 1-1/2″ · shadow board 1-3/4″ (rough cedar) · deck 19/32 (0.578″), sheets ≈47.9 × 95.9″. The cedar, plywood and sheathing thicknesses are assumed until measured; each one shifts the edge line by the difference.

Deck sheet layout (each slope)

Each slope is 151-1/4″ long (ridge 143-13/16″ plus 3-3/4″ past each end rafter) and 71-1/4″ from the eave edge to the ridge center, measured along the slope. The lower course is full-width sheets; the upper course is strips ripped from one sheet. The end seam lands on the middle rafter (rafter 4, center 72-3/4″ from the south end of the building). 3 sheets per slope, 6 total, plus your spare.

Section square to the slope, through a rake edge. Across the rake, the deck is level, so square-cut fascia and shadow board tops sit tight under it, and the deck edge is plumb and flush with the shadow board face.

Eave–rake corners (flush, decided Oct 4, 2026)

How the eave trim and rake trim meet at the four lower corners. Flush corners use the trim boards you already have; the JCS stepped corner would need eave shadow boards about 147-3/4″ long.
